The public in all its mass glory has taken to leggings the way it once took to skinny jeans, a trend that lingered in the spotlight beyond its 15 minutes and can only be described as having transcended from fad to necessity.

For fall 2009, ready-to-wear designer runways featured varied versions of leggings from gold lame, jewel-encrusted and skintight leather, to the new "tregging" - trouser leggings.

To support the trend of rising hemlines on dresses and skirts for this spring/summer 2009, leggings present an option of modesty and a "runway to realway" alternative to wearing the daring lengths so prevalent today.

Our two top reasons why leggings have become a wardrobe staple:

1. Fabulous and versatile for any age - Empty nesters can wear them with longer and leaner tunic shirtings with statement necklaces and blazers for age appropriateness and added sophistication.

2. Elongate the legs - Leggings in simple dark hues as black and navy elongate the legs beautifully when worn with any layering pieces.

Keys to Easy Summer Style

Zillions of women have issues with summer dressing. Whether you're missing a tan, added a few extra pounds, or complain about the wrong muscle tone, we understand. But we can keep cool and still dress cleverly this summer.

1. Pesky Pounds
If you want to camouflage those pesky pounds, you can still wear black and tell everyone you’re doing seasonless dressing. We received so much product last week, I didn't even get a chance to sit down and type about it. Shown above are organic cotton tops by Trinity Ya-Da; there's also bamboo knit tops, bottoms, and dresses by Two Star Dog, sheer silk blouses and seersucker cropped pants by Interlud, and all sorts of summery woven print tops and dresses by the socially-conscious brand Mata Traders.
